Educational Therapy

Educational therapy focuses on strengthening areas of weakness in perception and developing thinking processes. It is intended to change the thinking structure of a student from a passive and dependent performer to an autonomous and independent thinker by developing new neural pathways in the brain. Intensive, individual therapy is given in two eighty minute sessions per week, at least 63 sessions per academic year. Techniques are used which are especially designed to improve performance by integrating understanding and thinking. Parents are involved with the process at home and observe therapy on a regular basis. The number of years for which a student is enrolled in the program will vary with the severity of the deficit. The average is three years, but the final decision is always left to the parents under the advisement of the therapist.
